So the Question of the week was "Is it illegal to chew gum in Singapore?" It is a much more complicated answer that what I thought. Guess I should have researched the anwer before I asked the question. That'll teach me! Of, course, I found myself reading legal documents last night trying to figure out what the answer was. (Note to self, next time ask an easier question!) I am not a lawyer, in case you didn't know that. I am on vacation.
Ok, so here goes. What is missing in this picture?
Gum. You cannot buy gum in Singapore. The checkout counters have stands of mints, throat lozenges (which I think is a funny place to have them.) and a little chocolate, but no gum. Cannot buy it here. Visitors to the country can bring in up to 2 packs of gum with them. Anything over that is considered smuggling. Locals can get a medical perscription for Nicorette type gum.
It doesn't look like it is illegal to chew a little gum HOWEVER, there are penalties for improperly disposing of your gum (better get it to a trash bin!). They want to keep the country clean! Penalties include fines, community service, or public humiliation (caning). So long story short, although we could chew gum here, we won't be. We chose to be respectful of local customs and of course the law. As they say "when in Rome, do as the Romans . . . "
BTW I love gum. Chew it all the time at home. Me and original Trident are like BFF's. So when you see me at home with a big wad of gum, now you will know why!
Check Tie Dye's post about the science center also. Keylime has requested a picture for her page.
New question of the week of is posted below.

OMG I would die without my Sugar-Free Juicy Fruit. That might be my lone reason for not going to Singapore :)
