Which way do we go?

We have about a 25 minute walk to the MRT station.  We are in between three stations that are about equal distance from our place.  We decided to try a new route since the new way would leave us with less traffic to get to the MRT.  Sounds good, right?  The girls and I have walked this new route with M three separate times to get it down.

The girls and I decide to set out to the Science Centre (Tie Dye will be posting about that later today) so we need to get to the Somerset MRT stop to start our journey.  First we stop by the ATM.  We are set to go now.  As soon as we leave our complex, something doesn't seem right, and doesn't feel right, but how could that be?  I type in the directions into my notes screen so there would be no confusion.  "Cross the street . . . turn left on Kim Seng Road."  Easy enough.  The girls quickly lose faith in me and aren't keeping up with me.  Their words are showing concern.  I get the map on my phone out, which now doesn't look familiar to me (how does that happen?)  I tell the girls we are going to go down the River Walk and we will catch up to the street we need to be on up there.  Why I said that I don't know.  The map on the phone isn't connecting with my current location so I can't get a read.   As we are walking, the girls are nice and loud, talking about "at least we got  money from the ATM with us", "now that we are LOST" and my personal favorite, "Should we call Dad and tell him since he is in China?" So now we have broken every safety rule about traveling, right?  We have practically waved money out on the street, told them we are lost, and alone!  Great.  Good thing Singapore has such a low crime rate.

We walk (and sweat) and walk, and walk.  I am making random turns thinking I have a feel as to where we are going (who needs maps when you are so good at finding your way around, right?).  We are in neighborhoods so grabbing a cab isn't an option (believe me, otherwise I would have.)  We walk for about an hour, turn a corner and realize we are back at our apartment complex.  What?  How did this happen?  I couldn't decide if I should laugh or cry.  We are hungry and tired of walking and obviously no closer to the MRT, an THAT is how Keylime got to go to Super Dog again for lunch.

So, I have mentioned before, that I am directionally challenged, like you didn't know this after reading this posting. Not a little but, a lot.  The world of GPS and i phones help but clearly don't cover my disability in this area enough.  When I was telling M about the story last night, he reminded me that he didn't marry me for my directional ability.  Whew, that is good news!

(Some of you have asked how to post on my page of the blog.  If you click on any of the titles of the specific postings, the option to add a comment will be below the posting.)

Shout out to the K family.  We have a new nephew in the world!  Congrats to Aunt K and Uncle C!  We can't wait to meet MT!

I am enjoying reading your email updates every day! I can just hear you telling me the stories as if we were at lunch. I am glad you are getting out and having fun and I commend you - I am so geographically challenged I'd probably be too nervous to try going to the Science Centre like you did! - Z

J, You make me laugh! I have to say, I think you are doing a great job navigating Singapore, after all, you did end up back at the casa.
I, too, have no sense of direction, which is why my husband affectionately refers to me as Rand McNally!

I just love the stories of your adventures. You could write a book! I know you are enjoying the trip despite any problems, as they seem minor (to me, anyway). Love you, Aunt Pat

Glad to see you are all having so much fun!
