I scream, you scream . . .

It is hot here, although not as hot as StL this summer!  It is usually between 28 - 32 degrees Celsius (That's right, I threw a little metric system at you.  Now you have to google it to figure out what is the temp here.  Thought you might want to experience a little of what I go through.)

It is a hot, humid, tropical climate and nothing helps living in a hot, humid, tropical environment like ICE CREAM.  I think my family has become somewhat of an expert on the subject.  I am not sure we have missed any ice cream stand anywhere on the island (we even had it in Beijing).  If we have, well, we still have almost two weeks left.  There is still time.

We have been to Cold Rock Ice Creamery (from Australia), Haagen-Dazs, Ben & Jerry's (one location even has a lounge), Marvelous Cream Japanese Parfait, Charlie Brown's, Superdog, Whyogurt (well, why not? we say), Maggie Moos, McDonalds (they even have separate counters to order the ice cream.), Cold Stone, Gelaro, Walls, and even the street vendor that competes with Walls (don't know the name but we don't care since well, it's ice cream.)  Of course, when we haven't been to an ice cream shop, we have stopped by Cold Storage Grocery Store and brought some home.  To maintain some kind of dignity during this posting, I refuse to include the number of times we have been to some of these places (well, honestly, I don't even know anymore.)  What the heck, we are on vacation.   I think the girls will be going through ice cream withdrawals when we get home.

Our absolute favorite are the street vendors (well it's the favorite of M and me . . .  it's not only because it costs only one dollar.)  That's right, you read that correctly.  Only $1 Sing (about 80 cents, USD.)  There isn't much you can get a bargain on in Singapore.  Things are pretty expensive.  You can always get ice cream at street vendors and there are a lot of them on the river front.  They cut a slab of ice cream from a half gallon box and you can either get the ice cream in between two crackers (similar to a sugar wafer cookie, very good) or folded into a piece of flavored bread (did not like the bread).  They wrap it in some wax paper and there you go.  They are delicious.  The girls love them too.

The steet vendors have chocolate, chocolate chip, and mint chocolate (although some days the mint is way too strong) but they also have some unique flavors like sweet corn (really good, almost like a fancy vanilla), mango (really yummy), red bean (yuk, not my favorite.) and coconut.   They have Yam-flavored that I haven't tried so clearly we need to go back.  Plus there are some other unique flavors.

So that is how you do Ice Cream, Singapore style!
