We leave the apartment on a beautiful Friday morning. The girls and I are off. After a brief discussion on what was the right way to get to the Somerset MRT, we head off. Easy traveling today. We are headed to the Merlion.
The Merlion, part lion and part fish, is a huge site in Singapore. (Equate it to visiting the Arch in St. Louis or the Statue of Liberty in NYC.) When a Sumatran prince visited Singapore in the 13th century (No, that is not a typo), he claimed to spot a lion and named the city "Singapura" meaning lion city. The fish part of the Merlion represents the humble beginnings of Singapore as a fishing village. Boy, the country has come a long way from there. It is quite a site, with people from all over the world visiting it every day. The Merlion measures 8.6 metres high and weighs 70 tonnes (that's right metric system is alive and well in the rest of the world, keep up!) . In my terms, it was big and tall.
So . . . Coach L E A, we hope you are following, since these are for you!
Go Webster Waves!
Near the Merlion is what we affectionately call the Baby Merlion.
Several times during our trip random people will join our pictures. This boy's mom was trying to take a picture of him and he wanted to be in our picture.
On our way back to the apartment, we stop into Fair Price (another grocery store similar to Cold Storage where we have been shopping.) I need a Pepsi Light (a.k.a. diet Pepsi). I have cash to pay for the small transaction. It is $2.05 for a 1.5 L. I have the paper money thing down. They have a $2 bill so that part is easy. I know the dollar coin since it is gold but there are several smaller silver coins. I am trying to look through my coins to find the 5 cent coin (I am not even sure at this point if there is a 5 cent coin.) Honestly, without my cheater glasses, I can't see the faint numbers on the coins so I resort to a 4 year old behavior . . . I show the lady at the checkout all my coins and she selects the right one. How old am I?
Don't forget to check out Tie Dye and Keylime's pages.
