Off to Chinatown

Singapore is a country . . . a small country, but a country of it's own.  However, since it is small in size as you move through the city, you really feel like you are in a city like New York.  I sometimes forget it is a country.  Singapore, like many cities in the US, has various parts that represent different cultures.  Singapore has many distinct areas but some of the most well-known ones are Little India, a Malaysian area, Arab Street and of course Chinatown.

There are lots of outdoor markets to buy lots of things.  Lots of outdoor food places.  We walked for hours and the girls had a blast looking and shopping in the stalls.

We took the girls through the "wet market" and also a Hawker Center.  These are very popular here and the locals buy fruits, vegetables and fish at the "wet market."  The "wet markets" and Hawker Centers are located all throughout the country so it is easy for people to access them.  Don't get me wrong Singapore has two very nice grocery store chains that you would find similar to what you shop at home but the "wet market" is something different.  You walk through rows and rows of fresh fish stalls.  Some of the fish are still alive until you request to buy it!
We reminded the girls that not everyone considers fish as breaded sticks that come in a box

For our hearty eaters (not!), the smells overwhelmed the girls and they turned shades of green.  Quickly, we get them upstairs to the Hawker Center, which is a food court of sorts that has small food stalls everywhere, lots of people and lots of smells from the various dishes.  M is going to treat them to a fresh made Sugar Cane juice . . .
The woman squeezes it right in front of us.  Hawker Centers aren't really tourist areas so she was laughing that I was taking her picture.  The juice is a greenish, yellowish color. (Kind of the color of Tie Dye's face at this point.) We get a big chilled glass.  M and I both take a drink and we look at the girls (who are very skeptical at this point) and we both give a big YUM sound to get them to try it.  They both cautiously take a sip  . . .  no go on the Sugar Cane juice.  None of us can finish it.

So where do we head for lunch on this ethnic, cultural outing . . .
Which one wins . . . Superdog OR McD?
(I am making no progress on the food area, am I?)
McD's wins!

While this picture is being taken, Keylime is finishing up her fries and her iced Milo!
Oh well!
